2016 has been a year of great loss within the music industry, but I was not expecting to hear the news that George Michael would be joining the list of artists who have passed away at the age of just 53.
As a child of the 80’s I remember Wham! with great fondness and would no doubt have been dancing around the front room to Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go and their other many hits. I also have vivid memories of watching him perform at The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert and totally owning the stage while singing his rendition of Somebody To Love. I followed his solo career with interest and always had a lot of respect for his songwriting and especially his singing and performing. I can’t claim to be a massive fan, but he was always someone you could state as a genuine talent within the profession with a soulful, brilliant voice.
Stories of his generosity are now being told and it’s obvious that he was an extremely kindhearted soul despite battling his own demons. At this very sad time I will remember him for the legacy he has left us which will bring us and future generation so much joy. Rest in peace George.
